Greentech, short for green technology, refers to the development and application of products, equipment, and systems used to conserve the natural environment and resources, which aim to minimise and reduce the negative impact of human activities. It encompasses a wide range of technologies that help in the sustainable management of resources, energy efficiency, and the creation of renewable energy sources, among others. Greentech is crucial in addressing environmental issues such as climate change, pollution, and resource depletion.

'Actionable Ideas for Green Tech' is about generating and sharing innovative ideas, strategies, or solutions that leverage green technologies to promote sustainability and environmental conservation. The focus on actionable ideas indicates a practical approach, aiming to implement greentech in ways that are feasible and impactful.

The emphasis on greentech aligns with broader efforts to integrate sustainable practices across various sectors and industries, potentially including areas like renewable energy, waste management, sustainable agriculture, and eco-friendly transportation systems.

Why consider the digital carbon footprint as a major issue for (large) organisations? And why now? Like many tech enthusiasts, I have long believed that there would be a tech solution for every problem. The past two decades have shown so many brilliant examples, from hotel bookings to dieting programs, among so many others. My favourite apps are background removers and image alt-text generators. But unfortunately, I don’t think tech can solve everything. We urgently need to adapt our behaviours to reduce our carbon footprint.

Leading the marketing activities of Easygreen, I am involved in reducing the carbon footprint of emails. Given the large number of emails sent every day, we believe there is space for improvement. Getting rid of attachments in emails and replacing them with secure sharing links can reduce, on average, up to 7% of every user’s digital carbon footprint at work. Seamless. Every user can actively impact their carbon footprint reduction and visualise their CO2 savings on a daily basis with a simple dashboard, all based on the nudge effect.
